Dear Bryant Student, Staff and Parents
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2019/2020 school year. I look forward to serving you in partnership to achieve our goal in developing proficient learners, increasing student academic and personal achievements, and building a safe nurturing and healthy school community. To do all of this, your continued help, leadership and support will be needed in serving the 570 students who call Bryant their “PRIDE” filled middle school. Our motto is “PRIDE” which encompass the core values we wish to instill in BMS students- Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence. I ask that you discuss the “PRIDE” motto with your children.
The vision of Bryant staff is unchanging as we continue to provide an educational environment where all staff nurture, encourage and challenge students to fulfill their potential academically, socially, emotionally and physically. We believe if all students work hard and are supported by family, school, and our community, they will be successful, proficient learners. Bryant Middle School staff aim to promote an environment of “college readiness” through students setting their own academic goals, development of positive character traits recognized monthly and school spirit. I encourage you to talk to your children daily regarding their progress toward their self-set goals and ways they have shown/demonstrated positive character traits of responsibility, respect, fairness, citizenships, caring and trustworthiness.
There have been many wonderful changes at BMS to put focus on student academic success. We are working on Pacing Calendars (with focus on Focus Standards) aligned to the state adopted curriculum. Our staff members are teaming up in Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s) across domains and within departments to collaborate best practices for all. We have implemented all 6th graders to have AVID classes. This is our fourth year of Positive Behavior I System. Positive Behavior I System continues to be promoted and helps with suspension rates and with separate Tier Ⅲ classroom when needed. Multi-Tiered System for Success been well laid out, students have been educated in this behavior system, and it too is helping to keep our suspension rate down. In Tier Ⅲ classroom students receive intervention for behavior and work on core classes through a computer based program Odyessyware. Curriculum and data programs have been implemented such as Illuminate, Benchmark testing quarterly to drive instruction. School attendance is high on our implementation list and both SART and SARB are in effect. In addition we have added new school counselor, Veronica Lua, who has many years of experience with academic, social and emotional counseling. A behaviorist who can work with more serious needs for students and families has also been added to our repertoire. Reading intervention and READ 180 continue to serve students. Virtual Enterprise is new this year and serves students interested in business and computers. English language learners will be supported and their lessons will be strategically driven for their understanding and success.
So for the 2019/2020 school year, BMS will be building on our successes academically, athletically, socially and emotionally. We will implement benchmark assessments and use the data to drive our instruction. We realize the value of “first instruction” and how valuable it is to student success. The data will be evaluated quarterly and instruction will be revised and refined to ensure all of our students are performing at the highest academic level.
