Middle school is the perfect time to begin setting goals to attend college or start a career after high school. We encourage students and parents to begin early planning and awareness. Below is useful information to begin preparing for college in middle school
A-G Requirements
The following A-G requirements are the courses that students need to take in high school to be considered for admission to any University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) system. Courses must be passed with a “C” or better.
- History (“A”) – Two years required
- English (“B”) – Four years required
- Mathematics (“C”) – Three years Four years recommended.
- Laboratory science (“D”) – Two years Three years recommended.
- Foreign Language (“E”) – Two years Three years recommended.
- Visual and Performing Arts (“F”) – One year
- College-Preparatory Elective (“G”) – One year
Tips- College and Career Readiness
- Earn A’s & B’s in your classes and maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
- Consider taking at least one accelerated class.
- Talk to your counselor about achieving your college/career goals.
- Develop leadership skills
- Contribute to your school/community
- Start planning in middle school. Meet with your school counselor to discuss goals and plans.
