Tips for Success - Students and Parents

Student Tips

  • Get organized. Make a plan for what you're going to do and when you're going to do it to help you stay ahead.
  • Divide your work into manageable chunks and reward yourself when you finish each chunk in order to make homework and studying more manageable.
  • Get the right amount of sleep. Getting a good night's rest will sharpen your focus and improve your memory.
  • Set a schedule. When is the best time of the day for you to be productive and how long are you able to focus? Find a schedule that works for you, and stick to it.
  • Take notes. Taking notes will not only keep you more engaged during class, but it will also help you narrow down what you need to study when exam time rolls around.
  • Review your material several days ahead of time, in small chunks, and in different ways (for example, write flashcards one day and take practice tests the next).
  • Organize your study space. Find a place that will maximize your productivity. Look for places away from the television and other distractions. Set aside a study space that you'll want to spend time in.
  • Ask questions. You're in school to learn, so don't be afraid to do just that! Asking for help - from a teacher, a tutor, or your friends - is a great way to make sure you truly understand the material.
  • Attend tutoring after school if possible. You can also contact your teachers via email for any questions with lessons or homework assignments.

Parent Tips

  • Support homework expectations: Making sure students know that you see homework as a priority and having an effective study environment can help in making sure students are supported at home.
  • Providing a nutritious breakfast at home can result in having more energy and assist with focusing on school-related material.
  • Ensuring that students get the right amount of sleep each night helps them become more alert during the day.
  • Logging into the Aeries parent portal. Teachers update assignments and grades on a regular basis, which allows parents to monitor assignments and grades from home.
  • Write down progress report dates in your calendar. Students will receive a progress report each quarter. They will receive a final grade at the end of each semester (December/May).
